Inside the Photo

Wow, another in explore achievement for a photo I might have not picked myself. I thought this was happening when my phone starting pinging with a bunch of flickr likes from names I do not recognize.

It makes me giddy, so I had to write the post now. Flickr does not tell you when they pick your photo to be featured on the big marquee of Explore. Just scan a few of those photos. They are jaw dropping.

I find out because of the group that someone manages that files in it photos that have been Explored. There I can screenshot my proof

So about this photo. This is an apple tree in my yard. I’m excited because this year it has a fair number of apples on it; last year it had none (that is typical here where late Spring conditions vary from optimal to not).

I’ve not been taking a lot of photos this week, and all of them have been around my yard. I went out in the afternoon after a mid-day rain, looking for some shots of water drops. I took a few looking up at a pair of apples with water drops on them, these were the first ones I looked at

This apple was a little above by eyes, do I could shoot it straight on.

Like many of my shots its pretty shallow depth of field (f/2.8); if I was thinking I might have gone a bit higher (smaller aperture) to lock in a bit more focus (like the branch behind).

I find apples are touch to autofocus on because there is little surface texture, the details of the drops may have helped. As usual, I cropped this one a bit, probably cutting out another apple to the right. I likely did a bit of sharpening in Aperture, and might have brush sharpened the drops to give them a bit more punch.

I do like the detail on the two drops that are transparent.

Again, I did not even make this my photo for the day. I still like this one better of the intersecting pads of a prickly pair cactus

But that’s how Explore goes. It’s not what you think.

So far when this happens, the views goes above 10,000 on a photo. That’s some effect flickr can have on a single photographer.

That’s my third this year! Woohoo.
