This was a tulip flower I placed on a stump a few days ago, and each day its natural decay fascinates me.
This is more or less a color splash technique. I use the color adjustors in Aperture to boost the pinks in the petals, but in this case the color tones in the stalk are actually a yellow, and dropping that saturation took out most of the tone of everything but the petals. Another drop pick on the stump was a slightly different yellow, but I could drop its saturation out too to create the contrast work.
